My Courteney Adventure:
Recreate an 1800's elephant hunt - Harald Wolf
My hunt was in Zimbabwe in the Gwampa Forest Division. The interesting thing about this hunt was that I built a replica of Frederick Courteney Selous' 4- bore muzzleloader which is at the National Archives in Harare. I hunted in pure F.C. Selous style, even casting my own lead balls in the coals of a mopane campfire. Shooting a Selous style 4-bore is like experiencing a volcano eruption - no wonder Selous was shy of his big gun. A crazy thing to do, but I have been there and done it! Of course I was wearing my battered old Selous boots, though the pith helmet I took along was dropped after the first half hour of tracking - totally unsuitable headwear in thick bush.
